Unnecessary Journeys

Matt Hale

On a motorbike you cannot read a map as you ride. Taking gloves off and getting a map out takes too long and can only be done when not moving. The route, planned beforehand, is written down on paper small enough to fit in the top of a tank bag, but large enough to allow writing that can be read at a glance.

With Satellite Navigation this method is becoming increasingly out of date. This project is a record of something which probably won't happen much any more. The images were taken at some of the destinations. All the journeys were taken for the enjoyment of the ride and for the holiday at the end. They were strictly unnecessary although for mental health they seem to be essential.
